PVOH Sponge

This is a wonderfully useful and versatile item. It is super absorbent and dripless, this cross- linked polyvinyl alcohol sponge has an incredibly dense, compact structure which is extremely solvent resistant. The sponge dries to a hardened consistency. Simply soak it in water, wring it out and it can be used with benzine, xylenes, ketones with intermittent rinsing in water to which something like Triton has been added. You can also carve it into specific shapes to fit your needs. For example, you could carve it to a cylinder shape for rolling over a surface. These sponges work great for cleaning paintings and murals, smoothing gesso fills, and cleaning water gilded surfaces. You can just toss them in the washer for cleaning.
